Petition Against Government Betrayal of Privacy and Trust

To the new U.S. administration:
We, the undersigned, demand an end to the US intelligence and law enforcement’s betrayal of its ethical responsibilities, constitutional obligations, and the trust of the people. We are disappointed by the unaddressed issues of privacy infringement, political manipulation, and election interference that remain unresolved post-election.

Reason:
US intelligence agencies, including DOJ, NSA, FBI CIA, DHS and USSS are guilty of the following actions that betray their core responsibilities and our trust:
1. Influencing Media to Control Narratives and Election Outcomes: The government has manipulated media narratives , especially during election cycles, influencing online speech and political outcomes. Reports indicate pressure on platforms like Facebook to control online narratives.
Why did law enforcement pressure Zuckerberg to influence speech during the election?
2. Targeting Activists, Minorities and Political Opponents: Intelligence agencies monitor activists, minority communities, and certain political figures, like Trump, betraying the right to free speech and lawful protest.
Why did law enforcement charge Trump during the election but stop after it ended?
3. Failure of Accountability After Negligence: In the present day, government expansion has worsened issues of accountability and dereliction of duty.
Why aren’t law enforcement agencies held responsible for misconduct? There are cover-ups involving incidents like Loli Island, illegal immigration, and the Trump assassination plot. How should the officials of the agencies, like the FBI, Homeland Security and Secret Service, be held accountable? Who is responsible for this dereliction of duty? And to whom are they answerable?
4. Failure to Investigate Election Interference: Despite evidence and concerns raised about potential interference, intelligence agencies have not conducted transparent investigations into election meddling.
Why have these agencies failed to investigate election interference thoroughly?
5. Mass Surveillance of Citizens: Through programs like PRISM and Upstream, the government engages in vast, warrantless surveillance that ignores constitutional protections.
Why did these programs expand, disregarding promised protections for citizens?
6. Unrestrained Data Collection: Exploiting Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), agencies collect data on individuals without warrants, betraying the fundamental right to privacy.
How can government agencies justify the disregard for legal oversight?
7. Purchasing Private Data to Avoid Oversight: Federal agencies purchase sensitive data, including location and browsing histories, through third-party brokers, bypassing legal safeguards and betraying the people’s trust.
Why are safeguards circumvented by these purchases of private data?
8. Spying on Allies and Foreign Citizens: US intelligence agencies conduct surveillance on foreign leaders and ordinary citizens that violates their sovereignty.
Is this betrayal of allies part of the government’s commitment to democracy?
9. Demanding Backdoor Access: Government pressures tech companies to provide ‘backdoors’ to encrypted data that compromises private security of users.
What does this mean for the future of secure technology in America?
10. Applying Double Standards: The US enforces privacy standards abroad while flouting them at home, exploiting its control over digital infrastructure and disregarding its own principles.
Why does the US apply a double standard on privacy issues?
________________________________________
These practices equate to intentional betrayal of the principles that government agencies are meant to uphold. Instead of protecting citizens, these agencies prioritize power, violate our rights, and abandon ethical commitments.
We demand:
1. A full investigation into intelligence agencies’ surveillance practices, election interference, and disclosure of warrantless data collection.
2. Immediate reforms to halt warrantless surveillance and prevent data purchases without oversight, and stop meddling in elections
3. Accountability for government officials who misuse power by compromising privacy and influencing elections.
4. Transparency and public oversight of surveillance programs, with regular, accessible reporting.
5. Protection of activists, protestors and minorities from government surveillance and intimidation.
6. An end to government manipulation of media narratives to restore free press.

Our intelligence and law enforcement agencies are meant to protect national security and the public’s interests. They should not betray our trust. We demand that the new administration strengthen its accountability system. It must respect democratic values and vow to protect people’s rights.

Stand with us. End government betrayal. Protect our rights.

I think the fact that America has a show like The View should really say everything you need to know about our current media situation. If I'm fearful about anything, it's that people don't think for themselves anymore.

As a U.S. citizen, I stopped listening to mainstream media almost 20 years ago. I can't stand the bias.

If you're feeling sad watch a Trump rally from beginning to end... It's absolutely amazing the hope that man brings and has for his country

My parents are retired and have MSNBC and CNN streaming in their home 24 hours a day and that's the way they speak about politics. I can't have conversations with them, or my other relatives from their state, because they'll just repeat what they hear.

I agree We all need just facts from the media and that's not necessarily what we get unfortunately...

I've never witnessed these kinds of antics personally, BUT I have personally witnessed people I know take political results personally. They really do act as if something was done directly to them.

Some celebrating; bragging and others sad; disappointed.

The media is terrible about blowing things out of proportion

There is a large problem with the way social media and media can be manipulated. I think everyone can agree on that. I wish we did have some of the protections against lies being reported.
